ABOUT ME - My Pilates Journey

Why did I become a Pilates Teacher? Well I felt I was running out of choices! I was in my late 40’s and looking for a career change, having spent most of my adult life working in a pharmacy. So I went in search, trying sweddish massage and sports massage. I knew I wanted to help people through their bodies when I came across shiatsu. I fell in love - truly, madly, deeply, it gave me the connection I was looking for. But sometimes you can fall too deeply and after two years of training the teachers and I decided that it would be better that I leave. It broke my heart. After a long period of grieving I knew I had to rebuild but where to start? I was exhausted. I started with learning to teach TMW a simplified form of tai chi which I had been practising for a few years as well as kung fu. It reignited my enjoyment of teaching, I had trained as a riding instructor when I left school. But it wasn’t enough, I needed something to anchor my mind in my body, so again I went in search. I knew yoga wasn’t for me, nor gym based courses. In my search I came across Karen Ingram Academy who trained comprehensive Peak Pilates teachers. After a chat and having a few lessons on the scary looking reformer I decided I had nothing to lose so enrolled knowing little to nothing about Pilates. It was the right decision; I deepened my footprints in the sand. Pilates for me has been a journey of recovery. It has helped me be stronger physically and emotionally. I feel that I stand taller and move forward from a more balanced position. By focusing my mind on the way my body feels as it moves through the movements, I gain control over my body and give my mind a place to reside. Pilates for me is about working with the whole of you. When you feel something you can explore it, support it, accept it, change it, play with it and challenge it. And that is what I like to bring to my classes. Ways for you to explore your own connection to your own body - bringing movement from within. Wherever your journey takes you, thank you for reading mine.

Change happens through movement.

WELCOME to Centred Movement. Pilates is a sequence of

movements that builds strength and flexibility from the inside

out. It can be seen as a foundation stone to movement, balancing

the deep postural muscles of the body, It is not a quick fix but a

journey of understanding of learning to accept your body the way

it is today; not where you want it to be, only time, patience and

practice will make that a possibility. It's not about being perfect or

how you look. It is about how you feel.

It is suitable for everybody from the athlete to support their chosen sport to the everyday person who wants to enjoy an active life, and for those on a journey to recovery.
